agricultural research center: Leibniz-Zentrum für agrarlandschaftsforschung (ZALF) e.V.

I have a giant dorky secret. My primary goal in life is to be an agricultural genius. I really really really want to discover/develop/create something that greatly contributes to the betterment of the food system in the world.  I am working on a system of bio-intensive, companion planting intercropping system (that incorporates municipal food waste as fertilizer). So far, far so good. I had a really good harvest. I had a head of broccoli that weighed 1364 grams and was 30 inches in diameter. It was grown in a 60cm x 30cm piece of land.

But, what is my point? I visited this really cool agricultural research institute in Münchenberg, Germany. I got some ideas. I want to be a researcher there someday. Here are some pictures from my visit:

Protective cover crop mustard (also nutrient saving!)

Nitrogen fixing bean plants (fava beans/field beans.) they are grown just for N, not for bean production so late in the season.

A working miniature hydrological system (easy to make and would be great in any/every school!)

Cress as a cover crop (will it work? that is what they are trying to find out!)

checking the speed (I think…) of the test river

the end of the test river (to see how sediment flows)

The end.
